Netflix has offered a wealth of intriguing titles so far in 2020 and has struck hits with a number of documentaries.
Of course, the biggest has arguably been Tiger King, which explored the life and zoo of the one and only Joe Exotic. However, there has also been Crip Camp, Athlete A, The Social Dilemma, American Murder and the celebrated revival of Unsolved Mysteries.
The streaming service has been a fountain of exciting new content. However, it has also given viewers the chance to finally check out some older titles which made a profound impact on initial release.
At the moment, some are tuning into A Lion in the House…
A Lion in the House on Netflix
Directed by Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert, the documentary is split into two parts and navigates the lives of five families affected by cancer.
It spans six years and took a whopping eight years to shoot and edit.
Across the piece of work we get to know and gain insight into the struggles of childhood cancer victims; Al Fields, Alexandra Lougheed, Jen Moones, Timothy Woods and Justin Ashcraft.
A Lion in the House intimately chronicles their experiences and cancer treatment from the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Since its premiere at the 2006 Sundance Festival it has earned numerous awards and, more importantly, helped spread awareness.
However, new audiences are inevitably eager to learn of what happened to Justin as soon as possible…

- Tragically, Justin Ashcraft passed away at the age of 19 after bravely battling with leukemia for ten years.
Justin’s mother – Debbie Ashcraft – married Rod Kenner in 2002 and she announced that her mother and Justin’s grandmother Rita passed away in March 2006.
Jennifer – Justin’s sister – recently gave us an update regarding where her family are now:
“Both my mom and dad lost their spouses in 2013 to cancer (Susan was in the documentary). My mom is now engaged and still lives in Florence Ky. Her and my dad are both retired. My dad also still lives in Kentucky and had a triple bypass in 2009 but is doing well. My brother Adam divorced his wife Shelly (also in the documentary) in 2013. He still lives in Cincinnati. His son Ian is 17 and daughter Sydney is 20.”
She added: “I have married 3 times and live just outside Atlanta. My daughter Amanda is 14 and daughter Kamryn is almost 20. We are all still very close.”
