BBC’s most exciting travel programme to date kicked off on Sunday, February 3rd.
The ten Race Across the World contestants are now well into their 12,000-mile journey from the UK to Singapore, using only land-based modes of transport.
Here’s what you need to know about Race Across the World’s Shameema.
- Who is 60 Days on the Streets presenter Ed Stafford?
- Sky Atlantic and HBO’s Chernobyl mini-series – start date, cast and more
- Who is Sam Mucklow? Why was he banned from football?
Who is Shameema?
Shameema Mukhtar is a 38-year-old from Manchester.
She has been working in mental health services for years, but in 2018 gained her Masters in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from the University of Manchester.
She entered with the encouragement of her two daughters and her race partner and friend of over thirty years, Natalie.
What does Shameema do?
Her LinkedIn profile, which you can see here, shows that Shameema has been working in a variety of mental health services for over eleven years.
She now works privately as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist.
When she’s not helping others, you’ll be able to find Shameema boxing at the White Collar Fighter club in Salford.
She regularly features her boxing activity on her Instagram @shameema_x and can also be found on the White Collar Fighter Insta, here.
Why is Shameema on Race Across the World?
On her reasons for applying, Shameema told the BBC:
Travelling the world has always been my dream, being adventurous and exploring is in my nature.
However, just before entering the race, Shameema and her partner of over nineteen years decided to separate.
We think this challenge comes at a great time for Shameema and Natalie to clear their heads and free themselves from both of their tricky past years.
From the looks of her boxing activity, she’s definitely got the fight in her to complete the challenge!
WATCH RACE ACROSS THE WORLD EVERY SUNDAY ON BBC TWO AT 9 PM.
