Hugo has previous experience in journalism and publishing, having worked for a literary agency as an editor. He has additional experience in Communications and Public Relations, which he brings to The Tab.

  • Hugo Donnelly is the News Editor at The Tab. As Head of the News Team, he guides The Tab to deliver relevant, informative and compelling news articles to the people of Edinburgh
  • He is particularly interested in covering stories on political and social issues and events that are relevant to the Edinburgh community. He believes fiercely that the media is a tool of accountability and a platform to cultivate conversation around important issues
  • He was born in London before moving to Dubai, and he now lives in Edinburgh as a full-time student and in Surrey when not at university

Experience

Hugo joined the News Team at The Tab in 2023, before becoming News Editor in 2024. He writes articles around topical news as well as political and social developments in Edinburgh. He seeks issues that are contentious and pertinent, recently writing about the protests around the war in Israel and Palestine. In addition to his position at The Tab, he sits on the Board of Senior Editors for the Edinburgh Student Literary Journal and is involved with student Theatre and Film.

Education

Hugo studies English Literature at The University of Edinburgh, taking electives in Economics, Law and Finance to broaden his academic horizons and gain more versatile knowledge about the world.
