BBC blunder as it mistakes Edinburgh for Glasgow on map

Edinburgh and Glasgow were labelled incorrectly on an episode of Panorama

The BBC suffered an embarrassing blunder when it mixed up Edinburgh and Glasgow on a map in an episode of Panorma.

The programme, titled ‘The Race to Build 1.5 million Homes,’ discussed the UK Government’s promise to build 1.5 million homes in England by 2029.

It followed two presenters travelling around the country to investigate how Labour’s vision could be achieved by 2029.

Twenty-five minutes into the programme, the discussion turned to the creation of green belts to stop urban expansion. A map of the UK appeared, with three Scottish cities labelled, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. But social media users spotted that the labels for Edinburgh and Glasgow had been mixed up.

One user said: “Nice work Panorama! Appreciate programme is about building homes in England but how did you manage to get the locations of Glasgow and Edinburgh the wrong way round?”

Another said: “Great spot. Perhaps moving entire cities is the plan, or perhaps the BBC have more powers than we thought!”

A BBC spokesperson said: “We have taken swift action to correct the mistake.”

The updated version is now available on iPlayer.
