AHS 13’s Leslie Grossman explains jarring way all the seasons connect, and I’m even more confused
Sarah Paulson alone is playing five characters from different seasons
American Horror Story season 13 is now six episodes in, but with actors playing multiple characters from nearly every season, it reads more like a highlight reel than a fully formed show.
People, myself included, have been fearful that Ryan Murphy is going to butcher arguably one of his most iconic shows. The final season, simply called 13, brings together returning legends like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, and Jessica Lange. Still, a lot of iconic actors were snubbed.
We’ve already seen Jessica Lange play Constance Langdon, Elsa Mars, and, in the most recent episode… Margaret Thatcher?!
I can’t say it’s making a whole lot of sense right now, but actor Leslie Grossman has urged us to be patient.
Oh god, there’s an AHS multiverse

Leslie Grossman has starred in six seasons of AHS, playing Meadow Wilton and Patricia Krenwinkel in Cult, Coco St. Pierre Vanderbilt in Apocalypse, Margaret Booth in 1984, Ursula Khan Calico in Double Feature, Barbara Read in NYC, and Ashleigh in Delicate. She’s appearing as Coco once again in season 13.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Leslie Grossman explained the reason actors are playing multiple characters across multiple seasons.
“It is one big universe, but there’s many different timelines, and we have taken great care to make sure that all of the timelines intersect in a way that makes sense and is very satisfying for the fanbase,” she said. “So remember, all one universe, different timelines and they’re going to intersect in ways that are surprising.”

Admittedly, her quotes do nothing to explain the decision beyond pure fan service.
“I have to tell you, I read scripts and I was like, ‘No way! I had no idea that was going to happen.’ There are many Easter eggs and a lot of good payoff if you’ve been a fan of the show, but you can also have not watched it before, and I think you’re going to still enjoy this season,” she added.
I don’t think the “Ryan Murphy multiverse” is popular amongst people online, as one person said: “I wasn’t ready for American Horror Story: The Multiverse Saga.”
Another wrote: “Mind you, it doesn’t make sense and is p*ssing me off.”
Though some are critical of the decision, others have urged viewers to be patient and watch the story play out. Ryan Murphy always has a plan, they’ve said.
I am trying to be optimistic.
