Where the brainy Celebrity Traitors cast went to university, plus what they studied

Of course loads went to Russell Group universities

The cast of 2026’s Celebrity Traitors is full of brainy people, so here’s a closer look at where they all went to university. Naturally, many went to famous Russell Group universities.

Amol Rajan 

He studied English lit at the University of Cambridge’s Downing College. Amol started his career in media by writing for the student paper Varsity.

James Blunt

Peak Traitor material, surely?

The singer headed off to the University of Bristol in 1992. He began a degree in civil engineering, but switched to sociology. A few songs on James’s first album, including Wise Men, were written while he was at Bristol Uni. He was awarded an honorary PhD in music in 2016.

Joanne McNally

She has an undergraduate degree in English and sociology from University College Dublin.

Joe Lycett

He studied English literature and drama at the University of Manchester. Joe Lycett used to work at Manchester’s Palace Theatre, too.

Julie Hesmondhalgh

She trained in acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (aka LAMDA).

King Kenny

King Kenny (aka Kenny Oghenovo Ojuederie) embarked on the media studies course at Brunel University of London.

Michael Sheen

He studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (aka RADA) from 1988 to 1991.

Miranda Hart

Miranda got a 2:1 in political science at the University of the West of England Bristol (UWE Bristol). Shen did a postgrad course in acting at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA), which has now closed.

Myha’la

The actor graduated from the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pennsylvania in 2018.

Hannah Fry

She did her undergrad in maths at University College London (UCL), and stayed there for her PhD in fluid dynamics. In 2025, she switched to the University of Cambridge and became their first Professor of the Public Understanding of Mathematics, which sounds rather grand.

Richard E. Grant

He has a degree in English and drama from the University of Cape Town.

Rob Beckett

The comedian studied tourism management at Canterbury Christ Church University from 2004 to 2007.

Romesh Ranganathan

His degree is in maths from Birkbeck University of London – he was a maths teacher before his comedy career took off!

Ross Kemp

Ross attended the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, which is now part of the Central School of Speech and Drama.

Sharon Rooney

Sharon’s father encouraged her to go to the University of Hull. She has a degree in drama.
