Why KSI is in Netflix’s Outside after he quit the Sidemen, and when the show was filmed

The Sidemen’s new reality TV show Outside dropped on Netflix this week, and everyone’s wondering why KSI is in it after he quit, so here’s when the show was filmed. 

It’s a spin-off of their popular series Inside, where various different YouTubers, TikTokers and streamers live in a house together for seven days. Outside is exactly the same concept, except it’s all based outside in the wilderness. Paigey Cakey, Chip and Kaci Jay are just a few of the people on there this year, and it’s hosted by the Sidemen as always, surprisingly including KSI. 

The YouTuber, boxer, rapper and Britain’s Got Talent judge announced that he was leaving the group after 13 years in a YouTube video, saying: “This is honestly the hardest video I’ve ever had to make in my life. I’ve gone back and forth on this decision for a very long time. I’ve spent months trying to figure out what the right thing to do is.”

So, why is he there? Well, on one of the Sidecast episodes, Harry revealed the show was filmed in May 2026. KSI announced he was leaving the Sidemen on 31st May, after Outside was filmed. That means Outside was filmed before he quit, and it was the final project he ever filmed with the YouTube group. 

Did Ethan, Harry, Vik, Simon, Josh and Tobi know he was leaving while they were filming? Everything is pointing to no. They’ve all said it was a huge shock when JJ dropped his video, and they had no idea he was quitting. As far as we know, everything was normal within the group during filming for Outside.

In fact, KSI actually came up with the idea for Inside and its spin-off Outside, so of course he’d want to be there during filming. Now, the very planned-out timing of his departure straight after filming ended makes total sense.
