Ed Sheeran’s shows survived Macklemore row, but might still be cancelled as stage building paused

Ed Sheeran’s tour somehow survived the Macklemore row and all its opening acts dropping out, but now another issue could see two shows cancelled. 

It all kicked off earlier this month, when two simple words, “Free Palestine”, saw Macklemore dropped by the promoter. That came after billionaire Robert Kraft rallied stadium chiefs to pressure Ed Sheeran and his promoter. 

Over the subsequent days, as A-listers came out to support Macklemore and Palestine, Ed Sheeran issued a flurry of statements that only served to make the situation 10 times worse. 

In an apology SNL UK dubbed from “the bottom of his teleprompter”, Ed said during one of his shows: “This concert is still a place where everyone is welcome, and everyone here can stand beside people who have opposing views, and everyone here can stand by people that they don’t agree with on everything, but they can all agree I’m singing these songs. And these songs are about love, hope and unity.”

Two of Ed Sheeran’s tour shows are STILL facing the chopping block 

Despite managing to soldier on with the rest of his tour, two of Ed Sheeran’s performances at Robert Kraft’s Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, could still be cancelled.

According to TMZ, it’s not pro-Palestine celebrities challenging the tour this time; it’s Mother Nature herself. 

Parts of the US are currently battening down their hatches with the approach of the nor’easter storm, which will make landfall in New England. Boston, Portland, New York, and Atlantic City are among the cities set to experience winds reaching 60mph. 

The stage was partly assembled Thursday morning, but sources now say work has paused amid the weather reports. Higher-ups are now deciding whether to tear it all down in preparation. No calls have been made as of yet.

TMZ also reported that ticket holders are already attempting to get refunds, but Ticketmaster is being its usual awful self, forcing the Attorney General to step in. 200 people were trying to get refunds over Macklemore being dropped, and not the weather. 

Meanwhile, Macklemore has announced a “Free Palestine” concert with undisclosed famous “friends”.
