Ed Sheeran’s cousin shares his theory on Macklemore’s exit, as rapper announces new tour

Ed Sheeran’s cousin has absolutely no plans to go back on his comments about the singer, saying he still believes Ed was responsible for Macklemore being removed from his tour.

The family drama has now landed in the middle of an already messy situation involving Macklemore, who was cut from the rest of Ed’s Loop Tour after making pro-Palestine comments during a performance.

Ed has previously insisted that dropping Macklemore wasn’t his decision, saying the tour promoter was responsible for what happened. His cousin Jethro, however, clearly isn’t convinced.

Speaking in a preview for an upcoming episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, Jethro was asked about the situation and made his position pretty clear.

“Seeing what he did to Macklemore, I believe that he kicked him off that show, as I’ve witnessed him being a coward for almost 10 years and lying,” he said.

When Piers Morgan suggested that people could interpret his criticism as jealousy towards his famous cousin, Jethro dismissed the idea.

“He’s very talented and people think I’m jealous, but jealous of what? His looks, his guitar? I mean, I don’t hate him at all. I wish him the best,” he explained.

It comes after Jethro previously took aim at Ed in a seriously scathing social media post, meaning this is very much not the first time he’s publicly aired his grievances with his cousin.

While that particular family drama continues to rumble on, Macklemore has been getting on with his own plans. After suddenly finding himself with some free space in his diary, the rapper has announced a new Free Palestine Tour.

Macklemore revealed the news on Instagram, reflecting on the backlash surrounding his support for Palestinian liberation and arguing that there has been a wider change in how people expect artists to use their platforms.

“If these last couple of weeks have shown us anything, it’s that something has shifted over the last three years. There has been a collective awakening around Palestinian liberation, the power of billionaires that try to censor that call, and what we expect from artists right now,” he wrote.

He then made a fairly direct reference to his sudden availability following the tour controversy.

“So, as you all know, my schedule freed up a bit,” Macklemore said. “I’ve spent the last week reaching out to artists who have shown up and used their stages to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people, regardless of the consequences.

“Artists who understand that our platforms mean very little if we’re only willing to use them when it’s safe. Because of how quickly all of this has come together, a lot of the conversations, schedules and details are still being worked out. But this is a moment of momentum, and there is work to be done,” he added.

And then, rather simply: “So we’re going on tour. FREE PALESTINE TOUR.”

The tour is set to stop in Dublin, Paris and London, while US dates are due to be announced later.

There are also more artists to come, with Macklemore saying other acts will be revealed in the future. The announcement says that “all proceeds will benefit organizations supporting the Palestinian people and movement”.
