A series of annoying editing errors in MAFS UK shows how manufactured Ashley and Grace’s conversations in in-laws week were.

In a tense scene, Ashley’s mother and sister had dinner with him and Grace. However, the levels of food and wine keep fluctuating on-screen. It looks as if we saw a lot of the conversation in a different order to when it was said.

Now, it’s really, really common for reality TV shows to put together parts of a discussion in this way. The editors have the tricky task of condensing long conversations into a couple of minutes. In real life, people tend to ramble and repeat themselves. You might have noticed that at the MAFS UK 2025 dinner parties, everyone uses opaque black glasses. This is presumably so we don’t get distracted by the levels of drink changing in different shots.

But, it’s really interesting to watch the error in this scene with Ashley and Grace, and see how much editing goes into just one MAFS scene.

During Grace and Ashley’s meal, the levels of rosé keep changing. At one point, every glass but Grace’s is empty.

Side point, but this is surely one of the least bad-looking dinners we’ve seen on MAFS

But when Ashley says, “the Grace you see now has softened so much since the wedding,” the glasses are fuller again.

Er, maybe they had refills off-screen?

When we see Grace return with a fresh bottle, all the wine glasses are empty. This is pretty remarkable, since Grace’s glass was almost full when she left the room.

The next round of wine is a pretty different colour

The next bit of conversation – in which Grace lists all the things she likes about Ashley – looks like it was actually filmed before Grace went out the room. The plates are full of food, and the rosé looks like the first bottle, not the second.

Where can I buy this regenerating garlic bread?

Then suddenly, the other drink is back and the plates are emptier again.
