Omg! Vanessa Hudgens finally spills on what dating Zac Efron during HSM was really like

It’s been almost 20 years since High School Musical – I know, what – and 10 years since Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens called it quits on their adorable relationship. But in a new podcast interview, Vanessa shares some of the sweet details from the beginning of her relationship with Zac.

The couple met in 2005, while auditioning for the original High School Musical film. They were still in high school themselves; Vanessa was 16 and Zac was 17.

“There was one other girl there for Gabriella, one other guy there for Troy. We swapped, mixed and matched and yeah, that was it,” Vanessa told Bart Johnson for the Get Your Head In The Game podcast.

“Of course I was a child and paired with this boy and I was like, ‘Oh my god, he’s so cute.’ The chemistry was so real.”

Their feelings for each other only grew stronger as they started filming for the Disney Channel movie. We all remember the iconic karaoke scene, where Troy and Gabriella first meet in High School Musical, and they sing Start Of Something New. Well, Vanessa just revealed that she was barely even acting.

“It was so real. It helps when its real, it really does, especially when you’re young and it’s all sweet and innocent.”

She then explained how exciting the whole experience was for her, saying: “Coming from a musical theatre background, that was and still is where my heart remains. So, I was very excited.”

The 36-year-old explained how she went about portraying Gabriella, reflecting on the differences between her as a person and her character.

“It’s so funny looking back, I was so innocent but I was also playing so innocent, so it was like the hat on the hat. Like, wow, she’s really pure,” she said.

“That totally was who I was, but the little rebellious teen side of me was like, ‘No, this isn’t me!'”

After five years together, Zac and Vanessa broke up in 2010. Vanessa and her husband Cole Tucker are expecting their second child soon, while Zac Efron seems to be single and busy with his acting career.
