Everyone’s dragging this bizarre trailer for Ryan Murphy’s 9-1-1 and it’s absolutely wild
The police are now tackling serious crime – like meteor showers and a billionaire being swallowed by a whale
Ryan Murphy is allergic to annual leave. That man has too many TV shows to varying degrees of success, but one lesser known one in the UK that actually is a massive hit in the States is his police drama, 9-1-1. So successful in fact, that it’s ran for eight seasons and is about to debut its ninth and has a load of spin offs set in different cities than the original’s Los Angeles. It is headlined by a-list cast members like Angela Bassett and Jennifer Love-Hewitt, and like a lot of Ryan Murphy shows it goes viral often for having some steamy gay antics. Classic. But right now, people are watching in shock and awe at the latest trailer for the new series which shows Ryan Murphy writing in the 9-1-1 police force having to contend with, erm, a meteor shower. No, I’m not joking, and it’s as camp as you might have hoped for.
The trailer has everyone losing their minds

I’m sure given the fact this is a Ryan Murphy show, 9-1-1 was never particularly super high brow and gritty. But correct me if I’m mistaken – I feel like this of all his shows had a reputation for being somewhat normal. That normality has apparently gone out the window in the trailer for series nine. At the end of season eight, one of the show’s main characters has died. They’re coming back to 9-1-1 with Ryan Murphy making all the police deal with a meteor shower.

The trailer itself is taking a jarring approach to this. Like, I’m not sure what LAPD can do to help with this kind of catastrophic event as the sky is on fire and flaming balls of meteor rain down on Los Angeles. The trailer is set to Ordinary by Alex Warren, an abysmal song that makes everything even funnier. The whole cast just gawp up at the balls of fire in the most unintentionally hilarious way ever.
One of my fave reactions to this trailer is “BAD ACTING BAD CGI EVEN WORSE SONG… 9-1-1 IS BACK”.
We need to free my queen Angela Bassett from this nonsense. The fact that we’re expected to believe that the police will be called to action to deal with a meteor shower is just Ryan Murphy at his most iconic – maybe it will make a 9-1-1 stan out of me.
Even funnier still is another plot of the season revolves around a billionaire getting swallowed by a whale. To which, the showrunner says “A much larger adventure will ensue from that.” Oh, I’m sure.
