
Lancaster University ranked in the top 10 British unis by Complete University Guide 2026
It has also been named as the leading university in the north west
Lancaster University has been ranked in the top 10 British unis by Complete University Guide 2026.
The university has also been named as the leading university in the north west, ranking above the University of Manchester and Liverpool.
A number of subjects within the university have been highly scored, with 13 of these being ranked within the top 10 in the country.
The subjects that have been ranked within the top 10 are:
Drama, dance, cinematics and linguistics, which were all marked number two with Italian being ranked at number four and then German being ranked at number five.
Further down the list, biomedical sciences, creative writing, and social work were all ranked at number six then art and design ranked at number seven. Accounting and finance, architecture and marketing were all marked at number eight, and finally geography and environmental science, and physics and astronomy were ranked at number nine.
As a result of this, the vice-chancellor of Lancaster University, Professor Andy Schofield has said: “It is great to see Lancaster retain its national top 10 ranking, and highest ranked position in our region, within the latest Complete University Guide League Table.
“Lancaster prides itself on its world-class research and outstanding teaching that come together in a vibrant collegiate environment that helps to enrich out students’ experience.”
The subject tables, within the Complete University Guide league table, are based on six measures: Entry standards, student satisfaction, research quality, continuation, graduate prospects and include 155 universities, university colleges and specialist higher education institutions.

130 institutions are included in the table and are based on 10 measures: Entry standards, research quality, student satisfaction, research intensity, spending on student facilities and student-staff ratio.
Lancaster University also has a high reputation in other areas such as student responses to learning resources, teaching quality and academic support. Students who participated in the National Student Survey 2024, scored 81.9 per cent for student experience in comparison to York scoring 77.9 percent and UCLan scoring 77.8 percent.
