Every detail released about Paul Doyle, the father charged over Liverpool parade incident

He studied psychology and maths at university, and has been married for 20 years


Yesterday, police named and pictured a man charged in connection with the Liverpool victory parade incident that took place earlier this week. 53-year-old Paul Doyle was named as the suspect in the case.

Merseyside Police said 79 people were left injured after a car ploughed through crowds on Monday. The youngest person was aged just nine years old, while the oldest was 78.

The parade began at 2:30pm on Monday afternoon. It was to celebrate Liverpool FC’s Premier League win, and it has been estimated around a million people may have been in attendance. Here’s what we know so far about the suspect.

Paul Doyle is 53 and from the West Derby area of Liverpool

Paul Desmond Sanders Doyle, from the West Derby area of the city, has been charged in relation to the incident. He has been reported as a married father of three and a business owner. According to The Independent, he works in cyber security. Doyle and his wife have been married for 20 years.

He’s been described as living in a four-bedroom house on a “quiet” cul-de-sac. Neighbours have described the family as “nice” and said Doyle’s children are “well behaved”. It’s been reported Doyle’s wife only found out about the incident by seeing it on the news.

According to MailOnline, Doyle and his wife are “churchgoers and involved with a local Scout group”.

He’s been charged with seven offences

Paul Doyle has first appeared in court today (Friday 30th) He appeared to confirm his name, date of birth and age. Before this, Doyle was questioned for almost 72 hours and then charged with seven different offences.

They are: Two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and one count of dangerous driving.

Paul Doyle is a former royal marine and university grad

Prior to his job now, during the 1990s, Paul Doyle was a royal marine. Doyle apparently has recently competed in triathlons, and has enjoyed “luxury holidays”. Social media posts appear to have shown him recently at Disneyland.

After his time in the marines, Doyle went on to study psychology and maths at a Russell Group university.

‘It is completely out of character’

A source who spoke to MailOnline said they “felt sick” at what has happened, and claimed it is “completely out of character” for Doyle. They said: “It is completely out of character. He is a nice lad. He has a heart of gold. I have only just found out and I feel a bit sick.”
