Lip reader reveals hilarious four-word comment Macron’s wife made moments after ‘slap’

He insists they were just joking around

France’s President Emmanuel Macron made headlines on Monday after his wife Brigitte appeared to ‘slap’ him in the face, and a lip reader has now revealed what she said moments after.

Footage went viral which shows Brigitte lift up both of her hands and push her husband’s face while they were getting off a plane in Vietnam, and people thought they were fighting. However, he has insisted they were just joking around.

Macron told reporters in Hanoi: “My wife and I were squabbling, we were rather joking, and I was taken by surprise. Now it’s become a kind of planetary catastrophe, and some are even coming up with theories.”

They were definitely having some kind of diagreement though, because a lip reader told The Express moments after the slap, Brigitte turned to her husband and said the hilarious four-word comment: “Stay away, you loser”.

“At the top of the stairs, things turn icy again. He offers his arm; she ignores it, clinging to the railing instead. As she passes, she appears to mutter, and lipread as ‘Dégage, espèce de loser’, translated in English ‘Stay away, you loser,” they said.

The president then seems to say “Essayons, s’il te plaît,” which means “Let’s try, please?” before she replies “Non”. That means “No,” obviously. According to the lip reader, Macron then said “Je vois” which means “I see”.

“A rare unguarded exchange that hints at deeper tensions between the couple. One to watch, especially with a packed diplomatic schedule ahead,” the expert added.

After the incident, the Élysée Palace also tried to play down the footage, saying in a statement: “It was a moment where the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around.”
