Revealed: The Russell Group unis where the most girlies are studying in 2025

Literal girl math went into this

There are actually way more girls in higher education in the UK than there are boys. 56.7 per cent of UK students are female. The numbers of girls at different Russell Group unis in 2025 actually varies quite a lot.

The Russell Group uni with the most girls right now is King’s College London. I guess King’s students are statistically less likely to find boyfriends. At the other end of the scale, Imperial College London and the University of Warwick are the only Russell Group unis where fewer than half of the students in 2025 are girls. Both these unis have very strong reputations for science, and girls are still underrepresented on STEM courses in 2025, which might have something to do with why there are fewer girls at these unis.

Oxbridge also have way fewer female students than average. At the University of Oxford, only 51.9 per cent of students are female, and at Cambridge, only 51.1 are. Keep in mind that Cambridge still has two female only colleges. So at many Cambridge colleges, there will be more guys than girlies.

These statistics come from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), and refer to the 2023/2024 cohort (because that’s the most recent data available).

So, here are the Russell Group unis ranked by how many girls are there:
