Carina breaks silence after shocking MAFS final vows and shares last time she and Paul spoke

‘I don’t have time to muck around and ignore red flags’

Carina and Paul really went through it during their MAFS Australia final vows. It was brutal, but arguably, what Carina said needed to be said. Paul was optimistic things could work between them, but she was definitely not.

The last few weeks have been tough for Carina and Paul on the show. They had the controversy of him punching the wall, which they appeared to come back from. But then, it look a turn during final test week. Paul decided to go on a date with backup bride Hannah, which Carina said was the “final straw” for her.

During her final vows, Carina pretty much said she was done forgiving him. The trust was gone. “You had me. I was yours. I gave you all of me,” she told Paul. “You’re going to have to live with that regret for the rest of your life. Goodbye, Paul.” Paul broke down, and it was intense to watch.

Carina has since opened up about her MAFS Australia final vows with Paul, and has given an update on where they stand now.

‘I would never want him to struggle or go through hardship’

In a chat with Daily Mail Australia, Carina revealed what caused her to want to deliver her final vows to Paul in the way she did. “I think there was a build-up of frustration – you could see it all over my facial expressions,” she said. “I was essentially clocked out. I’d had enough. There were so many red flags along the way. I forgave him so many times, but when it got to that last and final task, that was my breaking point. There was no turning back.”

She went on to say she no intention of humiliating Paul, and said her vows weren’t about “tearing him down or getting revenge.” Carina said it was instead about realising her “self worth” and being the bigger person. Carina admitted she felt “triggered” from past relationships with how Paul treated her.

“I wanted to be the bigger person and stand my ground, but in a respectful way,” Carina explained. “It was a moment of self-worth – I had to make the decision for my future self.”

She added: “I’m not 25 anymore. I don’t have time to muck around and ignore red flags when they’re right in front of me.” She said ahead of the vows, she was “nervous, anxious and sad” about how it would go down.

“Not only was I facing my partner, but everyone around me. Even the crew were emotional – it was that real,” Carina said. “There were no retakes. That moment was real, it was pure, and it was meaningful.”

Speaking about what has happened since filming, and where they stand now, she said: “Time has gone by. When you live with someone every day, of course feelings grow stronger – but now, we’re just mates. Every once in a blue moon, I’ll check in to see how he’s doing. Mental health is so important, and I would never want him to struggle or go through hardship.”
