The five best Severance episodes of all time, according to their rating on IMDb
The top rated has a massive score of 9.7
Severance is the best show currently on TV. That is a point blank, cold hard fact. No hyperbole, simply the truth. Believe the hype. Nearly every episode has something life changingly good – but what are the definitive, top five episodes of Severance? Obviously it’s hard to decide, but fear not – because we have the handy and useful IMDb to get us a general consensus. And whilst it’s not particularly the order of the top five I’d have, it is the top five episodes I’d go for. So, presented in full – here are the top episodes of Severance according to their rating on IMDb.
5. Defiant Jazz and What’s For Dinner? – Season one, episodes seven and eight (tie)
Both scoring a very worthy 8.9 on IMDb, in joint fifth place are these back to back episodes from season one. At this point, things in the first season’s plot were really ramping up and the machinations to the stellar final episode were all getting put into place. In Defiant Jazz, we were of course treated to the iconic dance sequence that instantly became a meme – and also saw loads of revelations about overtime contingency as the MDR crew began to plot. On the outside, we got the reveal from the ripped up photo of Gemma that she was Ms Casey.
In What’s For Dinner, Cobel gets suspended. Helly finishes her file and the quota is hit for MDR – as well as insight into Irving’s Outie life and the paintings he’s been doing of the sinister corridor on the severed floor. By the end of this episode, overtime contingency got launched into full throttle and everything was ready for *that* episode.

4. Woe’s Hollow – Season two, episode four
With a very impressive 9.1, Woe’s Hollow kicks off the second season entries into this rundown of the best Severance episodes as per IMDb. I witnessed this game changing episode with all my friends and we watched in stunned silence. Every moment of the Innies trip to the woods on the Lumon trip is thrilling, mysterious and unsettling. This episode belongs to Irving B, who is a hero for the ages. A singular Severance episode experience like no other.
3. Chikhai Bardo – Season two, episode seven
This one scored a tight 9.3. The title refers to Tibetan buddhism, and specifically – death. After Dichen Lachman had nothing much more to do as Gemma / Ms Casey than serve her lethal face card, Chikhai Bardo really let her have her day in the sun. A devastating episode that showed us how happy Mark and Gemma were before Lumon abducted her – and before they ruined Mark’s life and tortured Gemma by severing her multiple times to experiment. Horrific stuff, but a truly outstanding episode. The cinematography is the series’ best.
2. Cold Harbor – Season two, episode 10
If there’s one thing Severance can do, it’s make a truly outstanding season finale – unsurprisingly, this one is right near the top of the best episodes on IMDb. Where it belongs, with a gorgeous score of 9.6. I’d actually give it the top spot, personally. Cold Harbor is absolute cinema – in the sense that I would gladly pay over the odds to witness it on the big screen. We got justice for Gemma, but at the cost of Innie Mark betraying her and legging it back to Helly. It’s not just one of the best episodes of Severance, it’s one of the greatest episodes of TV ever.
1. The We We Are – Season one, episode nine
I mean, could it really be anything else at the top? Coming in hard with a 9.7 – the season one finale of Severance maintains its hold as the best episode on IMDb. I feel like we forget because it’s a fair few years ago since we experienced the full throttle adrenaline of this episode now – but I watched wide eyed and tense as the Innies got to live life in their Outies body for the first time. The twist that Helly R is the Innie of Helena Egan was absolutely wild. Not even mentioning the biggest cliffhanger literally ever. Masterful TV, and solidified Severance as one of the greats.
