MAFS Australia insider reveals why it was so ‘important’ to cast Billy Belcher on season 12

Billy Belcher swanned into his MAFS Australia wedding with quintessential British charm as he exchanged vows with Sierah Swepstone and became an instant hit. Though it’s still early days, and I don’t want to jinx it, he might be the greenest flag of the bunch alongside Dave Hand.

Now, a source has revealed the sensible reason that he was cast in season 12 and it seems Billy – or someone like him – was always going to be walking down that aisle.

A source said Billy’s inclusion in MAFS Australia was ‘important’ for this reason

Last year, when people began spotting cast members out and about in Australia, an insider told the MailOnline that Billy “is a top bloke, full of personality and style. We knew he would bring something unique to the show.”

They also noted how “important” it was to cast a British person on the show despite the UK having its own version – and better version – of the hit reality TV series.

“The show’s success overseas has shown us that viewers love seeing a mix of backgrounds and cultures,” they said. “Billy brings that unique British charm and authenticity that we believe will resonate well with the audience.”

While the UK version is still more popular with us natives, the show itself has reportedly drawn inspiration from the Aussie version to up the drama and keep us hooked. In seasons since passed, we’ve also seen other Brits such as Claire Nomarhas appear on the show.

So where’s he actually from?

Billy and his family moved down under 15 years ago when he was 16, but he originally hails from Sleaford, Lincolnshire, which is the largest township in the North Kesteven district with a population of 19,807.
