Okay, where in the UK is MAFS’ Billy from? What we know about his life before down under

We were introduced to plasterer Billy Belcher in the latest episode of MAFS Australia, and despite residing in Perth, everyone noticed the semblance of a British accent.

In the UK we of course have our own version of Married at First Sight, but there are no explicit rules about non-natives appearing on the show. In fact, producers prefer it that way.

“The show’s success overseas has shown us that viewers love seeing a mix of backgrounds and cultures,” a producer told The Sun. “Billy brings that unique British charm and authenticity that we believe will resonate well with the audience.”

But there’s also no mistaking Billy’s British charm because our particular brand of humour is often misunderstood across the globe. Here’s what we know about Billy’s British roots and where he is ACTUALLY from.

MAFS’ Billy Belcher is from Sleaford

As per Billy’s Facebook account, he once lived in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, before moving to Australia 15 years ago in 2010 when he was 16 years old. Sleaford is a small-ish market town of 19,807 but it is the largest settlement in the North Kesteven district.

I honestly hadn’t heard of Sleaford until I started writing this, and after doing some more research, it’s really nothing remarkable. It’s crowning achievement seems to be the arts and crafts centre and the the fact the Sleaford Mods are named after the town.

He enjoys football and supports Manchester United

He might have moved halfway across the globe but Billy still keeps in touch with his British roots through his love of football. He celebrated the Euros in Portugal alongside the flag of England, wrongly claiming that it was “coming home” in his Instagram caption.

In 2021 he posed for pictures with his dog Myla in a Manchester United shirt, then in 2023, he attended the FA Cup final at Wembley where he sported a United shirt and aggressively waved a flag.

He regularly comes back to the UK

One look at his Instagram shows Billy is a huge fan of travelling, having touched down in Bali, Ibiza, Jamaica, Mexico, and Greece to name but a few of his favourite spots.

He’s also ventured back to the UK on more than one occasion, sharing snaps from the Peak District, London and Ipswich. He might very well have visited his hometown of Sleaford but there aren’t any pictures on his socials.
