Cardiff, you’ve spoken, here is your favourite pancake topping for 2025

You have definitely got a sweet tooth Cardiff

From sweet to savoury, simple to extravagant, choosing your pancake topping is an art.

This Pancake Day, take inspiration from your fellow students, who we let decide the favourite topping for 2025 (or ever, for that matter).

But, before we announce the winner, some close-cutting contenders have to be mentioned.

6. Chocolate and strawberries

Shockingly, this topping was not number one, even though it is delicious.

For those chocoholics in Cardiff, you will probably agree that one of the best sweet treats are chocolate covered strawberries. Why not take it to the next level and pair it with a pancake?

5. Bacon and maple syrup

Yes, this topping could be considered heavy and greasy by some, but it was up there in topping favourites as a sweet and savoury delight.

The crispy saltiness of the bacon matched with the sweetness of the syrup makes for a very indulgent and well-liked topping for this years’ Pancake Day.

4. Cheese

Cheese is one that I am yet to try, but can assume would be very tasty.

Again, like number two, the sweet and salty combination would definitely change the usual expectations of a pancake, making a great meal for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Does a pancake have a cheese pull, though?

3. Peanut butter

This nutty spread, whether smooth or crunchy, is perfect when topped on a pancake.

Although not extremely popular, it definitely is enjoyed by quite a few and remains on the favourites list.

2. Fruit or jam

This one is very common, coming in at number two.

The freshness of the fruit paired with a pancake is unlike no other, plus, you have so many options to choose from: bananas, strawberries or even blackberries.

For our fruit voters, which fruit would you opt to put on your pancake?

And, without further ado, the winner is …

1. WINNER: Lemon and Sugar

This topping is timeless.

It will never get too sickly, never go out of fashion and never not be scrumptious. It’s the cheapest and easiest, you’ll most likely always have the ingredients on hand – especially as a uni student.

I would definitely rate this a 10/10 like the rest of our voters.

Don’t forget that this Pancake Day: The sky is the limit. There are endless toppings you could put on your pancakes – and don’t knock them until you try them.
