Doechii caught rolling her eyes in digust at Trevor Noah’s ‘vile’ joke during Grammys

The joke has been widely criticised

Sunday night’s Grammys was an overwhelming success but among the impassioned victory speeches and Jaden Smith’s strange hat, there were some very real criticisms of Trevor Noah’s jokes.

Hosting an awards show is no easy feat. As we saw with Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes jokes, they don’t always land and could plop you in hot water with some of the most powerful names in the industry. Trevor Noah discovered this for himself today as he woke up to his name trending and calls for an apology.

Despite being the host of The Daily Show, a left-leaning news outlet that mocks right-wing politicians like Trump, some of Trevor’s jokes seemed to be pulled straight from the Republican handbook.

“Three-time Grammy winner Shakira is in the house,” he said during one moment. “The greatest thing out of Colombia that isn’t a Class A felony.”

Obviously, this comes amid mass deportations from Donald Trump and that fact was not missed by people online – or by musicians in the audience. One in particular had quite the reaction.

Doechii was seen rolling her eyes at the Grammys joke

Last night was Doechii’s night! Not only did she stun in a high-energy performance, but she also walked away with a Grammy for her album Alligator Bites Never Heal.

If Trevor Noah’s Columbia joke wasn’t bad enough, he doubled down on the rhetoric later in the evening when introducing another award. He noted how awards were voted for by 13,000 Grammys members and “20 million illegal immigrants”, but then the camera caught Doechii’s reaction in real-time. She initially looked up at Trevor while chewing her gum before turning back and visibly rolling her eyes.

But Doechii wasn’t the only one turned off by Trevor’s “insensitive” joke.

On Twitter, One person said: “Latinos being deported left and right and here comes Trevor Noah in the Grammy awards saying Shakira is the greatest thing out of Colombia that isn’t a Class A felony I’m tired.”

“In a time of deep racism and division in the world, and while Colombia is being targeted by the U.S. administration, this is such a poor attempt at a joke,” another said.

A third person quipped: “Like that joke was just nasty and insensitive.”
