Influencers are being slammed for using the LA fires to sell detox products

Apparently it’s the perfect time to buy raw milk and vitamin supplements!

The Los Angeles wildfires have just objectively been horrific. At least 14,300 buildings burned down, and at least 27 people died. So of course, now is the ideal time for influencers to recommend wellness products to everyone! Loads of wellbeing influencers are recommending detox products – including ones they earn commission from – to people affected by the LA fires.

The people are not impressed by this behaviour. Hey, if you’re worried about your house burning down, I’m sure it’s nothing that apple cider vinegar and B12 vitamin supplements can’t fix!

Don’t forget to drink raw milk, gals!

Jasyra Santiago Hines, who has 368,000 Instagram followers, is being slammed for recommending holistic wellness products to people impacted by the fires.

She wrote, “My heart goes out to everyone impacted by the Palisades fire”. She then recommended a load of products “to help support and detox the body during this time”. These products include milk, raw honey, and filtered water. She tagged thirteen brands in the post.

Instagram users were deeply unimpressed with this influencer’s behaviour during the LA fires. Someone wrote, “Trying to leverage heartbreaking human tragedy to hawk not only unregulated but completely irrelevant products, is unconscionable and utterly reprehensible behaviour.”

Another Instagram user commented, “Wow. Posting products with your discount codes at a time of unimaginable tragedy is really something to else. Also what is raw milk doing to help people who have lost their homes and are living in polluted air?”

Now is apparently the perfect time to sign up for a wellness course

The people are also not pleased with Jordan Younger, a rather multifaceted influencer known as the Balanced Blonde. Her website describes her as a “podcaster, intuitive, writer, healer, spiritual teacher and visionary” and I’m none the wiser as to what that means. She also offered a discount code for her meditation courses to anyone “who has lost their home and is in need of a nervous system reset”.

She posted about the air quality in Los Angeles, saying “even staying indoors all of last week, I am now at the point where breathing hurts, don’t worry I’m about to be on the detox protocol of a lifetime”. She then dropped a list of recommended detox products on Amazon. The list includes a $999 air humidifier. Jordan Younger earns commission from these products.

Jordan Younger also encouraged her 229,000 Instagram followers to venmo her money, so she can give it to her friends who have been impacted by the fires.

She told The Cut that she makes “literal pennies” from all Amazon, and “I also have committed to donating everything I make from affiliate links this week to wildfire relief, which I’ve publicly shared many times.”

Reddit users were not impressed, and wrote “What the dystopian satire”, “gross behaviour” and “these people have no f*cking shame”.

If you’re worried your house might burn down, try eating charcoal twice a day!

A wellness influencer called Detox RejuveNation called the Los Angeles wildfires “chemical exposure” and listed products such a charcoal, apple cider vinegar and epsom salt baths which she claims will boost people’s wellness.

The post leads people to a blogpost which is full of links to products on her own website.

Because apparently supplements solve everything x

An LA-based influencer called Sophia Kelly posted a TikTok called “supplements for my Los Angeles family”. She claimed Cymbiotika’s Liposomal Vitamin B12 + B6 supplements would boost people’s energy and mood if they hadn’t been sleeping well during the Los Angeles fires. The 60ml bottle costs $48 or £49.95.

She was dragged online – Reddit users commented, “You’re so delusional” and “I don’t know who this is but I hate her”. Sophia Kelly has now taken this TikTok down.
