A video of the set of Squid Game has gone viral, and I can’t watch the show the same ever again. Of course it’s all about the deadly games and players fighting for their lives, but in reality, filming for it was completely different.

Look, I’m not sat here shocked that the show isn’t like that in real life. People died. Please. But, seeing the show being filmed outside with not even real walls does ruin the magic of it, ever so slightly.

A TikTok sharing the Squid Game set has had over 40million views. It shows the reality of filming the now iconic Red Light, Green Light game. What you might have thought was filmed in an elaborate studio with huge set paintings and decorations, was actually filmed outside, on what looks like a portion of a sandy island. Yep, there’s not even a roof!

The cast members can be seen filming out in the open, with no ceiling. There are just pop-up walls around three of the set’s edges. The big green doors we saw players desperately trying to get out of when they realised the reality of the game, aren’t even there.

“So they could’ve just escaped? I don’t get it,” one person in the comments has joked. Another said: “Wait .. the wall was fake?”.

Also in the clip, a man can be seen coming over to Gi-hun and offering him an umbrella to shade him from the sun. It looks a bit luxury, if you ask me!

After season one, Netflix uploaded a video to YouTube showing more of the Squid Game set behind the scenes. It looks as though most of the games were filmed in empty studios or outdoors. Then, all the fancy decorations and paint designs we see on the show are edited in afterwards.
