YouTubers facing backlash after giving vapes and snus to uncontacted indigenous tribe

They’re being slammed as ‘trashy’

It might be the final day of 2024 but there’s obviously still time for another group of YouTubers to get into some controversy, and this time it involves a group called The NELK Boys.

The YouTubers are being called out online for travelling to visit an uncontacted indigenous tribe and giving them items such as alcohol, snus pouches and vapes, despite the health risks these products can cause.

On Christmas Eve, the YouTubers known as The NELK Boys who are a Canadian prank channel released a video about their travels to Fiji, where they visited a remote island in the Pacific Ocean.

Once there they met with a tribe which they claimed had only had “one Western visitor in the last 30 years.” The NELK Boys participated in tribal life which included shooting birds to eat for dinner and helping to cook a wild pig.

As a leaving gift for the tribe, they gave them various items including alcohol, packets of cigarettes, vapes and snus pouches. They showed them how to use the vapes and where to place the snus, with one of the YouTubers complaining the tribe had “drained the juice” out of his cherry apple flavoured vape.

The NELK Boys were originally supposed to stay longer with the tribe, but the YouTubers decided to leave the jungle early after struggling with how much their backs hurt on the beds.

However, the YouTubers are facing fierce backlash online for giving the items to the tribe, with one viewer writing on X: “That was a trashy move. Tribal communities are surprisingly healthy and some of them live very long lives. Bringing toxic products to them doesn’t help them.”

Another asked: “How tf did they successfully pull this off?” with another questioning: “Why would you do this to people?”
