Inquest opened into the death of Bristol based 18-year-old student found in River Thames
It has been confirmed that Fintan Feltham’s cause of death was drowning
An inquest has been opened into the death of 18-year-old university student Fintan Feltham, who was tragically found dead in the River Thames.
Feltham was reported missing on November 27th after being with friends and was last seen at 3:31 am in Oxford.
An inquest, opened this Tuesday (December 17th), revealed he died by drowning in the River Thames shortly afterwards, Oxford Mail reports.
Feltham was last seen on Wednesday, November 27th, walking on Whitehouse Road outside Oxford’s city centre.
Six days later, it was confirmed by Thames Valley Police that they had found a body in the river, which they believed to be Fintan’s.
The police had initially treated the death as unexplained but not suspicious. A post mortem has since concluded the cause of death to be from drowning.
Fintan, an avid cadet, has been described by his family as “the person who brought energy to the room”.
In a statement issued last Monday, his family said that “he had so many positive attributes: cheeky, adventurous, intelligent, practical, resourceful, independent, determined, a great sense of humour, and friendly, to name a few”.
The family continued, saying they were “totally heartbroken” at his sudden, tragic death.
They praised Fintan for all he achieved in his short life, saying that they “take comfort from Fintan accomplishing so much in the last few years which many of us don’t achieve in a full lifetime”.
They are deeply saddened that they “will never have the opportunity to see the amazing future he had the potential to fulfil”.
Fintan was in his first year at the University of Reading studying Politics and International Relations after studying his A-levels at City of Bristol College.
He had previously attended Orchard Bristol School and lived on Northwick Road, Bristol.
