Tulisa opens up about painful I’m A Celeb exit and the unclear future of her career

Tulisa has given her first major interview since leaving I’m A Celeb, saying she was left hyperventilating and crying before snubbing the reunion and leaving Australia.

After she left the UK following years of tabloid abuse and scandal, Tulisa returned to our screens in November as part of 2024’s I’m A Celeb cast. She captured hearts with heartfelt admissions about her sexuality, but following her shocking exit, she disappeared from the face of the Earth.

Though we now understand that Tulisa left the country to protect her mental health, she has remained fairly silent about the experience as a whole. Until now.

Tulisa breaks her silence on I’m A Celeb, says she was crying after exit

After taking some time to collect her thoughts, Tulisa spoke to The Guardian this week about her time on I’m A Celeb, tabloid persecution, and the revenge porn scandal that rocked her early career.

“I came out, still followed by cameras, all t**s and teeth, and it wasn’t until I was on my own that I felt this introvert overload. I was hyperventilating, crying. It was too much,” she told the publication.

Though many of us assumed this would be Tulisa’s big UK comeback, with more reality TV appearances set to follow, she questioned whether she’s really built for the celebrity life anymore following her emotional breakdown.

She wondered: “Is this about a fear I have of being in the spotlight? Or is the person I’ve become just not the kind of person that wants fame any more?”

“I had a lot of fear surrounding exposure and I got to the point where I thought: ‘Am I holding on to this fear because of what people have done to me in the past? Am I letting other people change my perception of what my career is and could be?’ I didn’t want to feel that way any more,” Tulisa added.

Protecting mental health has never been more important, but I’m hoping she can do that and still give us the Female Boss moments we love her for.
