Paper mache rocks to UK-bred bugs: Uncovering how ridiculously fake the I’m A Celeb set is
You’ll never watch it the same again
We’re in the final week of I’m A Celeb and it’s been a brilliant series so far, but you’ll never be able to enjoy the show again after finding out how fake it is.
Viewers are led to believe that the celebrities really are roughing it inside a real jungle, but that’s actually not the case at all.
The whole camp is literally a TV set with so many fake additions that you can’t really call it a jungle at all.
Campmates have a lack of food, no contact with the outside world, and are stripped of their luxuries. However, other than that the show is so artificial!
The rocks are paper mache
Those rocks you see dotted around the camp? They’re made from paper mache. This was revealed by former campmate Lauren Booth, who told the MailOnline that fellow cast member David Gest discovered the rocks were hollow. She claimed this is so that cameramen can hide inside them, saying: “The camp may be festooned with hidden microphones and technical wizardry, but cameramen are still needed for some shots – and they need somewhere to hide.”
The shower isn’t a waterfall
When the celebrities are doing their famous shower scenes, it looks like the continuous trickle of water is coming from a waterfall, but that’s not true either. It’s actually a real shower with an on-and-off switch! Lauren added: “The waterfall, like the pool beneath it, was not part of the jungle at all, but a man-made creation. Unless, of course, ‘real’ rainforest waterfalls get turned off between three and six every afternoon.”
The wood is already prepared
Most Read
Have you ever noticed that when celebrities go and get the wood, it’s already dried out and cut into neat square logs that are ready for the fire? Yep, the producers chop and dry the wood in advance then lay it across the camp sporadically for the campmates to find – nothing like the lengths you’d have to go to if you were actually camping in the jungle.
The camp has a roof
For years, people have thought the campmates were sleeping under the stars, but that’s not true either. There’s a giant canopy roof that stretches right over the top of the camp, with lights and cameras inside it so the producers can film the celebrities. Speaking on GK Barry’s podcast Saving Grace, Alison Hammond said “You feel like you’re on a camping film set” but revealed you can’t actually see the cameras because they’re hidden.
Even the bugs are fake
Even the millions of bugs that are used in the trials are fake – sort of. Obviously they’re real bugs, but they are bred in the UK and transported to Australia specifically for the show. A spokesperson for I’m A Celeb told the BBC: “The bugs are UK-bred and are commercially purchased in the UK for birds and exotic animal feed for pets and zoo keepers in normal circumstances.”
Great, now the show is literally ruined.
