Ariana Grande and Kristin Chenoweth agree Glinda is ‘a little in the closet’ – here’s why

After breaking box office records and becoming the highest-grossing cinema film of 2024, Wicked has been at the forefront of everybody’s minds. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo recently opened up about Glinda and Elphaba’s sexualities in the film after many viewers questioned their very close relationship. After their incredible performance in the film, Ariana and Cynthia spoke about this special bond as both actors and characters. Ariana Grande and Broadway legend Kristin Chenoweth both actually shared the same theory about Glinda and her sexuality.

In an interview with Gay Times, Ariana and Cynthia were asked what they thought about fans who were romantically rooting for Glinda and Elphaba. Cynthia said she thinks Elphie “goes wherever the wind goes.”

“I think she loves Glinda. I think she loves love. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with celebrating the deep connection that both of them have. They do have a real relationship. It is true love, which is probably why people are shipping it, you know? Because what they build with each other is an unbreakable bond and love,” she explained.

Ariana thinks Glinda might be ‘a little in the closet’

Ariana went a step further than what Cynthia said and explained she felt Glinda might be “a little in the closet.”

“You never know. Give it a little more time. I mean, it is just a true love, and I think that transcends sexuality. It’s just kind of a deep safety within each other. And that’s why fans probably ship it,” she said.

“Every day in the Emerald City is a Pride parade, right? Even the chickens… those chickens are gay.”

What did Kristin Chenoweth think?

Kristin Chenoweth, who played Glinda on Broadway in 2003 with Idina Menzel as Elphaba, wholeheartedly agreed with Ariana’s statement. “I thought so too way back when,” she said to E! News in response to Ariana’s comment.
