On track for success: Lancaster Uni student champions men’s mental health
Anthony O’Brien is running 100km to raise money for Movember
Anthony O’Brien, a student at Lancaster University, has pledged to run 100 kilometres this November, in aid of raising money for charity Movember.
Movember is a leading charity focusing on stigmatised subjects of men’s health – including mental health issues and suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer – and provides funding on many men’s health-orientated projects around the world.
Anthony, like many other Movember fundraisers this month, aims to raise more awareness for men’s issues, and encourage donations to the charity for future research projects.
Much like Movember itself, O’Brien is keen to raise awareness and discussion of men’s mental health issues, and motivate people to be more active through running – a hobby often accredited with helping reduce stress, depression and anxiety, releasing endorphins and boosting self-confidence.
Despite a trying and arduous month ahead, Anthony remains positive, he told the Lancaster Tab that “there is no such thing as failure, only someone who doesn’t try”.
Anthony has a donation target of £250 to raise for Movember – the donations page, and more information on Anthony’s challenge, can be found here.
