Workers trapped on Lancaster supermarket roof receive unexpected pizza delivery
‘It was a large Meat Feast Sizzler on a deep pan base’
Three workmen were trapped on top of Lancaster Lidl on Thursday 24th October, located on Kingsway Retail Park, when they received a pizza delivery.
The workers were stuck on the roof for hours, so supermarket workers and Pizza Hut workers sent up food and other supplies while they waited to be rescued after their cherry picker broke down.
The workmen lowered a bucket tied to a makeshift rope to help pull the pizza delivery up.
Claire Barrett, the manager of Pizza Hut in Lancaster, said: “They said they’re sending a bucket down and could I send a pizza up. The workmen had nothing to do so we also put some of our kids’ colouring books and crayons in. I think they used them!”
“We sent up some foil blankets to keep them warm and rang them a couple of times to make sure they were all right.”
“Staff at Lidl were helping them as well,” she added. “It was pretty bizarre. I’ve never had to do anything like that before.”
It was reported that the workers were trapped for around five hours on the roof.
When the workers finally made it to the ground they thanked the supermarket and Pizza Hut workers with bottles of wine and beer.
