Five types of students you will meet in your first term at Cardiff University

From the gap YAH warriors to the Welsh commuters

From freshers’ to final year, the first term at uni is the time you’ll meet the craziest people but also your potential friends for life. Enjoy meeting and mingling with students from all walks of life.

The people you’ll meet will undoubtedly change your perspective on many things and altogether alter your whole uni experience. You are who you surround yourself with, and take this guide as a checklist for the people you’re bound to meet.

1. All-girls school

Whether it’s at the club or in your lectures, you are bound to meet someone who has been to an all-girls school. They will either be the loveliest person you have met or the most “rah where’s my baccy” girl.

It’s safe to say any encounter with someone from an all-girls school has been entertaining, to say the least.

2. Gap year students

These are the people who seem like they have everything together. They’re the ones who you can go to for advice when you’ve unfortunately committed flatcest or don’t know how to do your laundry. Finding yourself in Bali must make them all the wiser, at least according to them or maybe it’s a facade, you decide.

Make friends with these people, they will be your saviours.

3. The ones who don’t leave their room

The ghost flatmate. This isn’t a very common one but every flat has that flatmate that doesn’t say a word for the entirety of first year.

We guess some people just want to be mysterious.

4. The campus celebrity

You know them from your For You Page, but spotting them in the library feels like seeing a real life celebrity. They can’t help but breathe BNOC energy.

5. Welsh commuters

This is an inevitable one. It wouldn’t be Wales without meeting someone with a strong Welsh accent that you are guilty of asking them to repeat themselves several times. These Welshies know their surroundings and are the best at holding their alcohol.
