Cardiff Met student wins national photography competition with picture of Cornish mine
The image was chosen as the best picture in the UK
A Cardiff Met student has won a National Photography Award with a picture of a “stunning” Cornish mine.
Jamie Hurst, a Cardiff Metropolitan University student from Cornwall, has been named the UK winner of the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership (GTTP) competition with her picture of East Pool Mine in Cornwall.
Hurst’s image of the National Trust Cornish Heritage site was chosen as the best picture in the UK and is now featured on the winning organisation’s website.
Speaking with The Packet, Hurst said: “I’m grateful for the support and guidance I received at Cornwall College.
“They helped me build my confidence and discover my passion for photography.”

Hurst, who is now studying international tourism management at Cardiff Metropolitan University, recently completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in travel and tourism at Cornwall College, Camborne.
“Cornwall College has ignited my passion for photography and allowed me to participate in the Global Travel and Tourism Partnership, where I am proud to say that I have won the UK segment,” said Hurst.
Suzette Sadler, study programme manager for hospitality, said: “We are delighted to celebrate Jamie’s success in this international competition.
“Being part of the GTTP is invaluable to our students as it connects them with peers and industry leaders worldwide.”
