A guy on TikTok has a wild theory about why time feels like it goes so much faster since 2020

Do you feel like life is flying by? I feel like everyone feels like life is getting quicker and quicker – and it’s not just you. Since the pandemic and lockdown, it feels like time has slipped away (like a bottle of wine, if you’re Taylor Swift) and it’s sending everyone a bit west. Why does this happen and is it just our minds playing tricks on us? Well, this fella on TikTok actually has a wild theory about why time has been going too fast since 2020 and it actually makes so much sense. And has validated a logic I had about the situation myself. The TikTok theory about time going too fast since 2020 has gone viral – so let’s unpick it.

The theory posted by Thomas Mulligan on TikTok explains “Throughout our live the way our brains perceive time actually changes. There’s a couple of different things at play here. One being the most obvious, on your first birthday one year makes up 100 percent of your life.

“By your second, one year makes up 50 percent of your life. By the time you turn 20 one year makes up five percent of your life.”

It’s basically explaining the logic of how despite the fact we’re living the same amount of time, the percentage of what that time is in relation to your life becomes smaller. When you were in school, the summer holidays felt like forever when it’s actually just a few weeks. They were forever to you because you had lived less amount of time. a year was a 10th of your entire existence when you were at school and 10 years old, but now if you’re 28th like me that year is a much smaller fraction of everything you’ve been through.
