Chappell Roan just threw major shade at Charli XCX with comment about collabing with H&M
Not Chappell saying ‘f*ck H&M’ two days before Charli’s H&M event in London
Chappell Roan just gave an explosive new interview with Rolling Stone, where she spoke about her huge rise to fame over the year and all the conversation surrounding boundaries she’s establishing with fans – that’s really changing the game with how celebrities interact and accept fandom. She also spoke about how she’s turning down brand deals – with one comment in particular feeling like major shade towards Charli XCX as Chappell Roan blasts the brand H&M – just two days before Charli launches a big collaboration event with H&M.

In a comment referencing how she’s taken her friend Elton John’s advice on how to say no to things when your fame is blowing up so har, Chappell said to Rolling Stone “All the money goes to the world-building. That’s why I am saying no to every fucking brand deal right now, because I’m like ‘Does it fit in this world?’ No, H&M does not fit in this world. Also, fuck H&M. No amount of money is going to [make me] consider working with [anyone]. It has to be a hundred percent right.”
This is being interpreted by some as shade towards Charli XCX, who has just announced that she will be playing a gig at H&M on Thursday before launching a campaign through autumn and winter with the brand. Charli said to British Vogue of her relationship with H&M’s clothes “Those clothes gave me an ownership of who I was and what I wanted to project outwardly. In some cases, those clothes gave me confidence. That time was really formative for me.”

Although, to be fair to Chappell Roan, I think this interview with Rolling Stone was conducted before Charli XCX had announced the H&M collab – so she can be excused the shade timing. But the internet is reacting to the comment suitably gagged because the timing is literally insane. Chappell Roan did also say in the same interview that Charli XCX had reached out to her to see how she was coping during her insane year and rise in popularity.
