Charli XCX has spoken out against fans who were chanting ‘Taylor Swift is dead’ at her show
‘I will not tolerate it’
Charli XCX has furiously spoken out after Brazilian fans at her show in São Paulo were chanting “Taylor is dead”, aimed at Swift. The comments from fans come in the wake of Taylor Swift and Charli XCX having a chart battle in the UK, where Taylor dropped extra versions of The Tortured Poets Department geolocked to the UK and rumours Sympathy is a Knife on Charli’s record Brat potentially being about Taylor.
After a video calling out the fans was posted on Twitter and tagged Charli XCX directly. Gui Ritsu mentioned Charli and said “your Brazilian fans have been showing toxic behaviour by screaming ‘Taylor is dead’ in your concerts and events related to you. could you do something about it? We don’t believe that’s what music should be about.” A Taylor morreu translates to Taylor is dead in English.

Charli XCX has called out the Brazilian fans for this, writing a post on her Instagram calling out the behaviour towards Taylor Swift. Charli wrote “Can the people who do this please stop. Online or at my shows. It is the opposite of what I want and it disturbs me that anyone would think there’s room for this in the community. I will not tolerate it.”
The drama comes after fans theorised Charli XCX made a comment about Taylor Swift on Sympathy is a Knife, when she says in the second verse “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show / Fingers crossed behind my back, I hope they break up quick.”

Everyone thinks Sympathy is a Knife is a Taylor Swift dig is because Charli XCX is currently engaged to George Daniel, a member of The 1975. George is referenced a lot throughout the album, and cowrote a couple of the tracks. Unless you live under a rock, you might remember that Taylor Swift was controversially dating Matty Healy for a short while last year when Charli would have been working on BRAT. Matty Healy is the lead singer of The 1975.
