Gossip Girl, Celene Dion and all the other pop culture easter eggs you missed in Deadpool
Ryan Reynolds is obsessed with Sabrina the Teenage Witch and it shows
Deadpool and Wolverine has wowed us all in its first weekend in the box office, steaming passed all our expectations with ease. It’s been hyped up for months and not only because it stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. Blake Lively herself has publicly endorsed her husband’s love child film, even going as far to explain all of the sneaky pop culture references Ryan put in the all the films after being married to her for 14 years. And I have to say, a bit of Avril Lavigne and a Harry Potter reference made the film 10 times better to me. Here are all the Deadpool pop culture easter eggs you missed the first time around. You may want to avoid this if you don’t want to see spoilers.
Deadpool watches Gossip Girl??
Not only is he a GG fan, but he states in the Deadpool & Wolverine film that he’s attracted to the cast, notably Serena van der Woodsen of course, saying: “There are 206 bones in the human body, 207 if I’m watching Gossip Girl.” No further explanation needed.
Blake Lively herself is in the film
An icon within the world of pop culture herself, how could Blake’s cameo not make it on the list? Fans were SO unsure whether Blake would be Ladypool, but thankfully the suspicious were true.
Deadpool threatens to snitch on Wolverine to ‘Blake’

Fans even caught a sneaky moment where Deadpool is fighting with Wolverine and loses his rag saying something along the lines of “That’s it, I’m telling Blake”, an obvious reference to Ryan Reynold’s real world wife.
Ryan and Blake’s kids cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine
Not only was Blake in the new Deadpool & Wolverine film, but their two children Inez and Olin even made cameos as Kidpool and Babypool. Whilst its unsure if it was them under the masks, they voiced both characters and it’s too cute.
When Deadpool vibes to Avril Lavigne in the car
Growing up screaming to Sk8er Boi on SingStar, an Avril Lavigne moment did not go amiss. Being both a Milennial and a hardcore fan, Blake Lively highlighted the scene where Deadpool is driving through the dessert and sticks his head out the window whilst I’m with You is blasting out. Iconic.
‘Do you want to build a snowman?’
Having four kids, it’s no surprise that Wade slips in a cheeky Frozen reference and asks “Do you want to build a snowman?” in Deadpool 2. I bet Ryan Reynolds could quote that film from memory so it makes sense he paid homage to it in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Deadpool breaking out to NSYNC

I NEED to know if that was really Ryan Reynolds busting those moves in the Deadpool suit to Bye Bye Bye. It’s almost certainly not but can you imagine if it was? It’s millennial core and is obviously a huge song of Blake’s adolescence too.
When Wade asks calls someone Sabrina the Teenage Witch
The sorting hat reference from Harry Potter
I just love that this Hogwarts lore made it into the film. When Wade is walking through the prison after failing to kill his target he asks, “I wonder what gang I’ll be in. Is there like a sorting hat?”. This isn’t the first Deadpool and Hazza P crossover, with the Deadpool #7 comic previously suggesting that the superhero would actually be in team Hufflepuff after wearing the signature yellow and black colours.
My Little Pony

In another savage burn from Wade, things get nasty when he being My Little Pony’s finest, Pinky Pie into the mix. When Wade tells Negasonic Teenage Warhead “I’m just surprised anyone would date you. Especially Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony” he not only confirm’s his own status as a hardcore fan, but Ryan’s too.
Wade’s summer balayage
Whilst we’ve seen Deadpool in a wig before, this is the first time we’ve seen Wade with such a barnet. I’m convinced that most men wouldn’t be able to identify a balayage even for £3 million – but not Wade. In the midst of being roasted by Negasonic for his “fake o’clock shadow”, he fires back “It’s a summer balayage” to explain his hairdo. Hilarious, niche and a pop culture reference only pulled off due to Ryan’s ultra trendy wife.
The Celene Dion-esque chair scene
The moment Deadpool raises himself from the chair crotch first as he’s showered in gold to Celene Dion – it’s all very burlesque.
