
A body has been found in Durham city centre in the search for missing local man
The body was discovered on Friday morning in the Elvet Bridge area
Durham Constabulary has confirmed that a body has been found in the search for a missing Durham man.
Emergency services were called to the Elvet Bridge area of Durham on Friday 19th July, shortly before midday. A police cordon was then put in place as the body was discovered.
The body is believed to be that of 51-year-old Paul, who has been missing from his home in the Sherburn Road area since Saturday 13th July, The Northern Echo reports.
Police and fire and rescue teams were seen on the bridge after the body was discovered.
Formal identification is yet to take place, but the death is being treated as non-suspicious and his family have been informed.
A police spokesperson said: “We are sad to report that a body has been found in the search for missing Durham man Paul.
“Formal identification has yet to take place, but the family of the 51-year old have been informed. At this stage, the death is being treated as non-suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to an incident today (19th July) at Elvet Bridge in Durham shortly before midday. We dispatched one ambulance crew, one duty officer and three HART crews (Hazardous Area Response Team) to the incident.”
