Tab Presents at Blanc raises over £300 for MIND

The Tab Newcastle and Bar Blanc teamed up for a fourth to bring Newcastle an Acoustic Happy Hour session on Monday.

The event, which had eight local artists playing in the bar, raised £305.10 for MIND – a charity providing help and support for those mental health problems.

The charity was chosen by organisers after The Tab investigated institutions that were failing their students when it comes to mental health. Shockingly, Newcastle ranked second last.

Last year, events in November ’15 and March ’16 jointly raised around £600 for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Organisers were overwhelmed with the support for this year’s event.

Bar Blanc Manager, Amica Puri, said: “It was such a great night of live music! It’s something we are hoping to continue every fortnight in Blanc. We raised loads of money for charity and want to thank everyone involved in helping make the night a success.”

Elliot Lewis, Newcastle Editor at The Tab said: “We were really pleased with the money we raised. Everyone that turned up to the event was hugely generous and supportive of the charity, MIND. The singers were fantastic. We’re already talking about the next one.”

A raffle of ‘Guess the amount of condoms in the jar’ raised a large proportion of the money. The correct number was 83 condoms, won by a second year female Historian.

Co-organiser George Jeavons-Fellows said: “MIND is a fantastic charity, and we raised a great amount of money on the night which is fantastic. It was a very fun evening with so many people coming down, and the performers did very well.

“I’m looking forward to the next one in a few weeks time, and to raising some more money, so let’s make sure we get another full house!”
