Birmingham students spend the least on alcohol out of any uni in the UK

Wait, are we boring?

Birmingham spends the least on alcohol out of any uni in the UK.

According to the NatWest Student Living Index, the average Birmingham student spends only £4.12 on buying alcohol per week – almost £3 less than the national average.

We were an eye-watering £1.30 behind our closest competitor, London – while other big city universities like Newcastle and Glasgow were found to be spending well over double what we spend.

In the Index overall, we were named the 17th most cost-effective city in the UK for students – the top five being Edinburgh, Southampton, Cambridge, Oxford and Plymouth.

It’s not all bad news, though – our students have the 8th highest average income, and we pay below the national average for rent.

We also have the 8th highest expenditure on clothes, but who cares when you look this good at Snobs.
