Some sixth formers removed the I to spell ‘tit’ in our beloved sign

Most of you observant students out there would have noticed that our lovely Nottingham sign on campus was missing the letter I after last Friday night.

Even though it is a blatant rip off of the Glastonbury sign we still like it for its photogenic qualities, speculation and theories spawned and spread about the seven-foot letter’s location.

Was it some drunk first years after a beer trophy? Was it celebrating Trent students, enthralled by their Varsity Basketball win? Or even an avid giant letter collector?

Well turns out it was none of these. It was some local sixth formers.

It was a gang of spotty teens from nearby Bilborough College that moved the I last Friday night to form the word ‘TIT’ from the sign’s letters.

After a bit of investigating, the Tab found the aforementioned crew and convinced them to talk to us anonymously. They revealed the story behind the missing I and put all the speculation to rest.

“It was a prank really” one of the college students told us.

“We were just in the area after being in Wollaton park and remembered they’d seen a story about the letters before. It sounded a lot easier than it turned out to be, we got a lot of splinters from the wood.

“It was a completely spontaneous sober thing, three people did it to be able to move the concrete blocks but then the wood snapped, that part wasn’t intentional.

“Just thought it’d be funny to spell tit, no regrets except the wood being damaged and that someone took the ‘I’ so no one saw that it was done to spell tit.

“Cars were going past the whole time, every time one went past had to drop to the floor.”

We can assume campus security – who somehow missed the whole prank happening – removed the I on Saturday morning to avoid offending students on their stroll to the library on the weekend.

Though an act of spontaneous vandalism, it has in a way improved the sign. Now instead of being a rip off of the Glastonbury sign it has become unique in its own right.
