Horrific Holylands assault as man targeted by gang of ten

A young man is believed to have been the victim of an assault on Agincourt Avenue in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Queen’s student Caoimhe Roberts witnessed the incident as she walked home from the McClay library, just a short distance from where crowds had gathered.

She said: “There were about ten guys on the street trying to beat up this one boy and there were loads of people crowding around to watch.”

The first year English student thinks there were approximately thirty people occupying the corner of Agincourt Avenue and Carmel Street at around 2:05am last Tuesday.

A resident on the street, Sarah Cunningham, also heard the commotion from her house.

She said: “It was really loud and a lot of people were shouting but I could hear this one girl screaming, it sounded like she was screaming at someone.”

The second year Philosophy student was scared to go outside for fear of being dragged into the chaos.

She added: “I thought that they had done something to this girl because it didn’t sound like the other people were her friends, she sounded really angry.”

The student admitted to growing concerns about security in the Holylands.

“It makes me feel unsafe, I want to be able to feel safe in my home.”

The PSNI have been contacted for further details, but could not comment on the incident.
