Netflix confirms who Monsters season three is about and it’s the most gruesome killer yet
He’s the inspiration behind Psycho, The Silence of the Lambs and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Netflix and serial killer shows seem to go hand in hand and make for great content. Ryan Murphy’s murderous hit began with a season one retelling of Jeffrey Dahmer’s story, and season two covered the very different case of the Menendez brothers. Although we’re still reeling from Erik and Lyle’s story, Netflix has already pinpointed the star of season three: Mass murderer and grave robber, Ed Gein.
Who is Ed Gein?
So, who was Ed Gein? If you hated The Silence of the Lambs killer, Buffalo Bill, you’re going to hate Netflix for Monsters season three even more. Ed Gein was the inspiration behind the terrifying killer who skinned his victims and used their body parts as decorations and utensils around his house.
He was born in 1906 in Wisconsin, where he lived on a family farm and committed his crimes. Harold Schechter, author of Deviant, which recounts the true story of Ed Gein, said that he was a bit too close for comfort with his mother, and when she died, he felt “completely alone in the world.”
What crimes was he actually found guilty of?
His crimes were pretty gruesome – when authorities were sent to his home, they found a decaptiated body hanging from the wall, and body parts everywhere. Some of the notable additions to his home were organs in jars and skulls used as soup bowls.
He also admitted to stealing bodies of middle-aged women from nine graves, his targets purposefully resembling his mother.
His confessions
Most Read
Ed Gein confessed to and was found guilty of first degree murder of two women, Bernice Worden and Mary Hogan, but pled insanity and was diagnosed with schizophrenia, which meant he spent the rest of his life in an asylum instead of prison.
The police had actually linked him to many other unsolved murders in Wisconsin, where he lived, including his own but he was exonerated after being found innocent on a lie detector test. Not sure how trustworthy a lie detector test from the fifties would have been, but luckily his confessions were all confirmed which was enough for the police to believe him.

Netflix has confirmed season three is already in preparations. We already know that the gorgeous Charlie Hunnam will be playing Ed Gein, who you might recognise from The Gentlemen, Sons of Anarchy or Rebel Moon.
Ed Gein has had a HUGE impact on pop culture, and inspired some pretty horrifying films, music and novels. I’m absolutely terrified to watch season two but at the same time, I’m counting down the days until this insane story is out.
