Selling Sunset’s Jason sells Kanye’s stripped back $57million house for half price he wanted
Ouch
Selling Sunset season eight gave us loads of drama with the agents, but in terms of the actual house selling they do, it was casually dropped in that Jason Oppenheim was desperately trying to flog Kanye West’s house. And I say desperately, because he’d literally stripped back the previously stunning home, and made it look like a multi-story car park.
Jason still seemed to think the house would sell for full asking – but it’s been revealed since Selling Sunset season eight aired, that he’s not going to get nearly close to that in the sale of Kayne West’s house.
Kanye West bought the Malibu Road beachfront house for $57.3million, making it one of the most expensive houses in the world per square foot. The price was set so high because it was designed and created by Japanese architect, Tadao Ando. As we saw on the show, the rapper had since completely gutted the home, and nobody said it more perfectly than Amanza who said it looked like an “abstract parking garage.”
Kanye is said to have removed all the decor, the electrics and the plumbing from the house basically leaving it as just a concrete shell of what it once was.
Despite all this Jason said he was setting the asking price as $53million. However now, the price on The Oppenheim Group website has changed – it’s now being listed at $39million and still hasn’t been sold. Nobody was interested in the property at the initial price, and Jason has been forced to lower it, despite how much he was adamant he wouldn’t.
We can all see what state the house is in, but the description on the site reads: “An architectural tour de force and only one of the few private homes in the United States designed by the renowned Pritzker Prize-winning Japanese architect, Tadao Ando. Best known for his minimalist structures and his assured use of reinforced concrete, Ando’s trademark design of ‘smooth-as-silk’ concrete is wholly present in the structure and surface of the home.” Concrete is present, that’s for sure.
It added: “An exceedingly rare architectural achievement that should be seen as a masterful work of art, rather than just a residence.”
Is Kanye West’s house about to be another Selling Sunset $75million listing style situation on our hands?
