Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever has gotten everyone on the edge of their seats with its crazy true stories.

In the second episode, we met Seemona Sumasar who tells us her story about Jerry Ramrattan, a seemingly nice police detective.

Seemona tells viewers the story of the whirlwind Jerry caused, leading her to face up to 25 years in prison.

So, where is Jerry Ramrattan from worst Ex Ever now and what exactly did he do?

What happened between Seemona and Jerry?

It was 2006. Seemona had just opened her Jamaican restaurant in Brooklyn, New York, when Jerry came in to order food and they struck up a conversation.

Jerry explained he was a detective for the District Attorney’s office, which viewers would soon find out to be a lie, and as the two got to know each other, Seemona said he was helpful and always looking out for her.

She said: “He showed up to just do random things for me, if just to take my car to the car wash, little things like that to make my life on a daily basis easier. And then I guess we became friends.”

The pair then started dating, and all seemed normal for a while.

However, two years later, Seemona discovered Jerry had a secret family, so she ended their relationship.

Despite them breaking up, Jerry asked to stay in Seemona’s basement for a few weeks but ended up living there for months.

The next year, on 8th March 2009, Jerry raped Seemona in her home. She told viewers he bound and gagged her, whilst threatening her with a gun and holding her hostage for hours.

He was then charged with rape and was put under investigation for impersonating a police officer, however, he pled not guilty to these charges and was released on bail.

Jerry’s ‘campaign of harassment’ against Seemona

When Jerry was bailed, he started what lawyers called a “campaign of harassment” against Seemona, trying to destroy her credibility and scare her into backing off from the rape investigation.

At first, he sent people around to Seemona’s restaurant to convince her to drop the charges, however, this soon changed.

Jerry decided to frame Seemona instead for a string of faked armed robberies in and around Long Island.

This led to her arrest and she tried explaining to the police that Jerry must be behind it.

She said: “If you think I did something, then he’s behind it. I didn’t do it.”

However, officers ignored her pleas of innocence and Seemona ended up spending seven months in jail, waiting for a trial that could lead to her serving up to 25 years in prison.

Seemona even had an alibi. There was CCTV evidence of her in a casino on the night of the alleged robberies which was classed as uncredible due to the footage being blurry.

Seemona’s lawyer was also denied access to Jerry’s phone records which could have been used to prove her innocence.

Luckily, Seemona was released after the initial seven months when an informant explained to the police that Jerry had set her up.

In January 2012, Jerry Ramrattan was convicted of rape in the first degree, perjury in the first degree, and tampering with a witness in the third degree.

Three of his co-conspirators who were involved in lying about the armed robberies also received custodial sentences. They pled guilty to perjury and were jailed for six months with an additional four years of probation.

Jerry from Worst Ex Ever is now serving his 32 year sentence at Eastern NY Correctional Facility, a maximum security facility in New York.

He will be eligible for parole in 2031, with his earliest release date being in 2032, and his latest in 2040.
