A look at the crimes of Worst Ex Ever’s Mei and Rosa and where they are now

Worst Ex Ever is on Netflix now, with episode three following the harrowing story of Rosa and Mei, mother and daughter who inflicted harrowing crimes on their family in order to regain custody of Rosa’s child.

In the spinoff from Worst Roommate Ever, the episode Killing for Custody tells a horrific story of violence, lies and betrayal. The story follows Rosa’s crimes throughout her battle for custody of her daughter, and how an innocent woman got caught in the crossfire.

Who are Mei and Rosa from Netflix series Worst Ex Ever?

Mei and Rosa were mother and daughter who lived in America and who invoked lies and violence on their family on order to win a custody battle.

Killing for Custody tells the story of how one man, Eric, was introduced to Rosa through a his work colleague and Rosa’s mother, Mei. Rosa and Eric hit it off in the early 2000s, soon moving in together, getting married and having a child. But after the birth of their daughter, things really started to go south.

Despite Eric detailing the first time he witnessed Rosa’s violence being during their honeymoon in Hawaii, when she threw a punch at him during an argument, it was the birth of their daughter which amplified tensions between the two.

Rosa became demanding and controlling, resulting in Eric distancing himself from his friends and family in order to appease her. The couple soon split up, with Eric moving in with his grandmother, Selma. Rosa then began lying to Child Protective Services (CPS) about Eric in order to gain full custody of their child. The courts picked up on Rosa’s deceitfulness, and reduced her custody allowance bit by bit until Eric had almost 100 per cent custody of their daughter.

That’s when Rosa and Mei came up with “Operation Custody”, a plan to kill Eric’s grandmother, Selma, and frame it on Eric. The pair then planned to kill Eric before forging a suicide note, making it appear that he couldn’t live with himself after murdering his own grandmother. Notes for the killings were written in two different hands, meaning both women were involved in the plot to kill both Selma and Eric.

However, after murdering Selma, Rosa and Mei were unable to fulfil their plan of framing the crime on Eric after he arrived at his grandmother’s home and got neighbours heard noises of their physical altercation. Rosa and Eric Hill were both arrested along with Mei, before police officers determined what had happened and released Eric.

Rosa and Mei are currently serving sentences at the the Central California Women’s Facility, located in Chowchilla, California.

Both were sent to the female-only state prison over 10 years ago. On June 28, 2011, Rosa was found guilty of the 2009 murder of 91-year-old Selma “Sally” Hill and the attempted murder of Eric Hill, receiving a sentence of 25 years to life. She is currently 49 years old.
