sabrina carpenter's short 'n sweet

A release day ranking of all 12 tracks on Sabrina Carpenter’s Short ‘n Sweet

It’s Sabrina Carpenter’s world, we’re all just living in it

Short ‘n Sweet season is now officially upon us, and I think it’s safe to say that every track is pop perfection (apart from Espresso in case you didn’t hear it enough over the last two months). Sabrina Carpenter’s really killed it this time around, and I truly believe Short ‘n Sweet will be her Stick Season moment. So, which songs are instant hits, and which might take longer to like? Here’s the release day Short ‘n Sweet ranking!

12. Don’t Smile

Sorry Sabrina but Don’t Smile is my skip. I just felt like it was very repetitive and I didn’t even realise when Lie To Girls ended and Don’t Smile started playing. This one was just not for me.

11. Bed chem

Bed chem is a banger, but I can’t shake the feeling that it’s soundtrack/H&M changing room music. There’s some jokey talking bits which are playful but again, I just didn’t fall in love with it.

10. Lie To Girls

The harmonies are absolutely divine and the lyrics are definitely cool, there are just so many better songs on the album that put this so low down on the list. One of my favourite lyrics is how Sabrina “loves to mistake butterflies for cardiac arrest.”

9. Dumb and Poetic

Dumb and poetic is very beautiful overall, and there’s some real standout lyrics like “Just ‘cos you leave like one, doesn’t make you a man.” Unfortunately, the whole song just didn’t stand out to me in comparison with some of the other hits. I’m sure it will grow on me though!

8. Good Graces

I absolutely love the vibes of this Good Graces, but when I first heard the song, I was like welcome back Camilla Cabello? Everything about it feels like it could belong on one of her albums, from the beat, to the guitar, to the vocals. We definitely know that there’s drama with those two and Shawn Mendes, so it might even be an intentional thing. Tea!!

7. Sharpest tool

This song is genuinely too real – I didn’t need to be called out like that Sabrina. A part of what makes her so popular is how she’s just so honest with matters of love, and she really captured the casual relationship vibes here. This song could very easily be Casual by Chappell Roan’s younger sister.

6. Slim Pickins

I haven’t seen anyone else rank Slim Pickins this high but I’m just so obsessed with it. It’s got that country twang that artists like Beyonce are really leaning into at the moment, and the lyrics are just so soft and beautiful. I love this vulnerable side of Brina!

5. Espresso

How could I not put the song of the summer in the top five? Of course Espresso needed to rank highly, despite even Sabrina feeling a bit sick of it now. But, with over a billion streams to its name, Espresso deserves its place on this list. It’s Sabrina Carpenter’s world, we’re all just living in it (and streaming Short ‘n Sweet here too).

4. Coincidence

From what I’ve seen online, Coincidence seems to be a very popular choice. It’s definitely got some fun country vibes, and it feels very new and very Sabrina. The lyrics are really chaotic too. “Your car drove itself from LA to her thighs”, I mean WHAT?! I really hope she makes more songs like this one in the future!

3. Please Please Please

As one of the singles, I didn’t need to re-listen to this song to know how much of a bop it really is. I love the message behind it, and she’s got such a knack for being hilarious, down-to-earth and just so relatable: Her personality really shines through here. The music video says MORE than enough too!

2. Taste

Not only is this song such a bop, but it also reveals so much tea about the Camilla Cabello and Shawn Mendes love triangle. The lyric “I know that I’m known to share” is such a clever way of poking fun at herself and her past reputation, specifically the Joshua Bassett/Olivia Rodrigo drama. This song really proves she’s tough and can take the hits that come with being in the limelight. Stay unbothered queen!

1. Juno

This song gives major 80s vibes and is just SO FUN. It’s absolute pop perfection with a “make me Juno” reference which she nailed for her target audience – we all know the Juno she means. It’s just so catchy and I can already see it blowing up on TikTok. Sabrina Carpenter’s really outdone herself with this track, and Short ‘n Sweet overall – her success is incredibly well deserved. Bring on the Short ‘n Sweet tour!!
