‘I am at a complete loss’: Taylor Swift releases statement on the Southport attack
Two children have died and nine are injured after a knife attack at a Taylor Swift dance class
Taylor Swift has released a statement on yesterday’s attack in Southport.
Two children were killed and nine others injured after the knife attack at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class.
Releasing a statement on Instagram, Taylor spoke of the “horrendous trauma” of the attack.
She said: “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock.
“The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families and first responders.
“These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
Merseyside Police confirmed on Monday that a 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder following the “major incident” at a property in Hart Street, Southport, Merseyside, at about 11.50am on the day of the attack.
Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said on Monday that as well as the two children who died, nine children were injured in the attack and two adults are also in a critical condition.
In a statement, the Police Constable said it is understood that the children were “attending a Taylor Swift event at a dance school when the offender armed with a knife walked into the premises and started to attack the children inside”.
She said the force believe the adults were injured while “bravely” trying to protect the children. The force said a 17-year-old boy was arrested and is set to be questioned following the “major incident”, which is not being treated as terror-related.
