Who is Jo Koy, the Golden Globes 2024 presenter who made THAT bad joke about Taylor Swift?

The Golden Globes 2024 took place last night, with presenter Jo Koy making a poor taste about Taylor Swift which of course sparked a thousand memes and reactions. It feels like every year the Golden Globes host always makes a poor-taste joke, is there not anyone genuinely funny in Hollywood they can use?

But who actually is the presenter Jo Koy, and what exactly did he say at the Golden Globes that earned him the title “worst host ever?”

Who is the Golden Globes 2024 presenter Jo Koy?

Jo Koy is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He started his career in 1994 at a comedy club in Las Vegas before having a regular spot on the show Catch a Rising Star at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.

In 2012 he started a podcast with fellow comedian Michael Yo called The Michael Yo and Jo Koy show, and also has his own weekly podcast called The Koy Pond.

Jo has done three Netflix comedy specials so far, Jo Koy: Live from Seattle was released on March 28, 2017. His second special was called Jo Koy: Comin’ In Hot and his most recent Netflix original is Jo Koy: In His Elements, a comedy special featuring Filipino American comedians, DJs, and B-boys.  

Jo has also appeared in multiple films as well as starring as a voice actor. Notable mentions include Anastasia: Once Upon a Time where he played Vladimir Lenin, Haunted Mansion where he played a bartender, and Netflix’s The Monkey King where he voiced Benbo.

What was the ‘cringeworthy’ and ‘unfunny’ joke he made about Taylor Swift?

Jo said: “As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader. The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.” Understandably, when the camera panned to Taylor she was not looking impressed.

He joked that the Barbie movie was based on a ‘plastic doll with big boobies’

In his monologue, he also joked that Barbie was based “on a plastic doll with big boobies.” He went on to say: “The key moment in Barbie is when she goes from perfect beauty to bad breath, cellulite, and flat feet — or what casting directors call character actor.”

Selena Gomez reacted like how we were all feeling by burying her head into her hands.

He made several other jokes that didn’t land

Jo Koy asked Barry Keogan from Saltburn, “Where’s your penis seated?” He then pointed to Bradley Cooper’s nose and said he “found it,” referencing the prosthetic nose the actor wore for Maestro.

Jo also apologised to Robert DeNiro for being a fan of his, before saying his “greatest performance” is the fact he got his girlfriend pregnant aged 80. If Robert DeNiro was a younger man I reckon a fight might have broken out tbh.
