‘I’m scared I don’t have time to live’: Grad cries on TikTok about having to work 9 to 5 job

A newsreader called her out for ‘expecting to roll out of bed and have a six figure salary’

People are absolutely going for a college grad right now, who has posted a video of herself as she cries on TikTok because she’s just started work at her first nine to five job and is struggling with the realities of her new schedule.

In the clip, Brielle describes how she has just left college and started her first job since graduating, in the city. She then goes through what every single grad can relate to, the struggle of coming to terms with a new schedule. She says she is struggling with affording to live in the city, and doesn’t understand how people have time to live a life for themselves, when they work full time.

The video, captioned: “I’m also getting sick leave me alone I’m emotional ok i feel 12 and I’m scared of not having time to live,” has been viewed over 2million times, and the comments section is completely divided by her confession. Half of the people are ripping into her for only just realising what real life is like, whilst everyone else is saying that we all feel this way, and just mutually never admit to it.

In the video, Brielle says: “I’m probably just being so dramatic and annoying but this is my first job, my first nine to five job after college, and I am in person and I am commuting in the city and it takes fucking forever to get there, there’s no way I’m going to be able to afford living in the city right now, so that’s off the table.

“If I was able to walk to work it would be fine, but I’m not. It literally takes me, like I leave here for my train at 7:30am and I get home at 6:15pm earliest and like, I don’t have time to do anything. I want to shower, eat my dinner and go to sleep. I don’t have time or energy to cook my dinner either, I don’t have energy to work out, like that’s out the window.”

She continues by saying she is “so upset, oh my god” but clarifies her hatred is “nothing to do with my job at all” but is just because “the nine to five schedule in general is CRAZY.”

“Being in the office like, if you’re remote you get off at five and you’re at home, everything’s fine,” she says. “But like, I’m not home, it takes me long to get home. People who drive to the office, you don’t get off at five.

“I know it could be worse, I know I could be working longer. But I get off and it’s pitch black, like I don’t have energy. How do you have friends? How do you have time to like meet a guy? Have time for dating? I don’t have time for anything.”

She ended the video by saying she is “so dramatic, emotional and stressed out.”

In the comments, lots of people are sticking up for Brielle, but loads are ripping into her. “The 40 hour work week is beyond outdated and your feelings are totally valid,” one person said. Whilst another said: “Aww welcome to adulthood”.

Twitter is also getting involved, with one person saying: “Omg, poor baby has her first job. Like..she has to commute?? Like…she has to cook dinner?? Like…no time or energy to work out?? Like..she’s working in person not remote??? Like…She. Has. To. Work. 9. To. 5 ??? What????”

Another just said: “Gen Z girl finds out what a real job is like.” Elon Musk himself tweeted: “Our future generations are doomed… Girl talks about her ‘9 to 5’ and how it’s so difficult. I was literally sleeping on the Tesla factory floor some nights…”

In her defence, someone else tweeted: “The negative reaction to this TikTok is wild to me. 9 to 5 is bullshit, plus a 1-2 hour commute into, and out of the city (cause rent prices in cities are ridiculous), it makes it impossible to live a real life. She’s totally on point.”

Brielle has even ended up on Fox News, in a segment headed up: “College grads are finding out what life’s about.” A kicker along the screen added: “Gen Z worker: How do I date when I have a 9-5” with the newsreader adding that he used to get on the train at 4:45am and now grads expect to “roll out of bed and have a six figure salary right out of college.”

Yikes!
